Where may I find lost animals?
Check with the Humane Society of Jackson County, located on G Avenue in Freeman Field for lost or stray animal needs or to adopt. Call 812-522-5200 or visit the shelter to see if your animal might be there.
Call the Ordinance Administrator at 812-522-4020 for more information pertaining to other pets within city limits.

The City of Seymour performs marriages during regular business hours at City Hall. Both Mayor Nicholson and Floyd Amburgey can perform the ceremony. An appointment is recommended and there is no fee associated with this service. A marriage license is required and can be acquired at the Jackson County Courthouse in Brownstown. Where can I find information about children’s sports and activities?
The Seymour Department of Parks and Recreation (812-522-4020) will be happy to give you information on sports leagues for children, which include baseball and softball in the spring and summer, and soccer in the fall. Park & Rec. also can give you information on swim classes and summer recreation in the parks. Each school in Seymour has information on athletic activities available for their students.

Trash & Recycling
How to dispose of large items/furniture?
With weekly trash pick ups, two furniture items will be picked up for free. More than two items needing picked up should be called into the DPW office and there is a minimum fee of $15 or the current landfill fee per ton, whichever is higher. Billing for extra trash pick up is separate than the sewer bill. DPW accepts cash, check or money order. All trash must be bagged and the lid must close.
How to purchase an extra trash toter?
Extra trash toters may be purchased for $65 (subject to change) and paid for at DPW office. Once paid for, toters will be delivered within 2-3 business days. Trash and recycling toters must be out the day of scheduled pick up by 7:00 am in order to ensure pick up. Only one recycle toter allowed per household. Call 812-524-1100 for information or to gets toters.
When does the city pick up my trash/recycling?
Schedules for trash pickup and curbside recycling pickup depend on where you live. See the trash pick-up schedule for more detailed information. Your recycling will be picked up at the curb on the same day that your trash is picked up. All recycling toters are to be placed on the curb, at least 4 feet apart. No trash accepted in the alleys.
A free toter may be obtained at the department of Public Works, located at 865 F Avenue East, Freeman Field.
When does the city pick up leaves and yard waste?
Yard waste is picked up year round. Call 812-524-1100 if you have a large amount, due to pulling up shrubs, trimming around trees, etc. Leaves are picked up in the fall, and a schedule will be released at that time, which will be available online.

My commode is backing up and my sink is stopped up – this must mean that the sewer is clogged. What do I do?
First, call Seymour Water Pollution Control (WPC) at 812-522-5351 and let them know about your problem. If the main line of the sewer happens to be stopped up, it will cause your sewer to back up. They can check the main line (at no charge) and tell you if it is stopped up. If the main line is O.K., then it has to be your problem, and then you need to call the plumber.
Licensing & Permits
Steps to Getting Construction Related Permits
Are you doing a project and need a building or construction permit? Here are some steps to getting the permit you need.
All projects must be approved by Seymour Building Commissioner Jeremy Gray.
- Electrical Upgrades - Require a permit. Work must be completed by an electrician licensed through the City of Seymour.
- Garages - Submit a building plan to Planning and Zoning Department. Once approved, a permit will be issued for $75.
- Residential additions, porches, decks - Submit a building plan to Planning and Zoning Department. Once approved, a permit will be issued for $75.
- Remodels - Submit building plans to building commissioner for approval. Once approved, a permit will be issued for $75. A remodel includes tearing down walls or adding walls or a room addition. Painting, new flooring, windows, siding, or a new roof do not need a permit.
- New homes - Submit construction plans for approval. Once approved, developer will need to acquire a sewer tap through Seymour Water Pollution Control and then a construction permit will be issued for .08 a square foot. Inspections are done during the construction process.
- New commercial buildings - Submit construction plans with state project release for approval. Permit will be issued.
- Commercial addition or remodel - Submit construction plans with state release, if necessary. Permit will be issued.
- Demolition of homes or structures - Submit an application for demo permit. Notify all utilities and Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Contact Seymour Water Pollution Control for sewer disconnect and Seymour Department of Public Works to stop trash pickup. Once a structure is demolished it will remain empty until someone wants to rebuild. (Property owner will still get charged a stormwater fee for any impervious area left on the property.)
- Sidewalk and driveways - Permits are given when individuals need to replace an existing sidewalk or driveway. Must get curb cut permit from Planning and Zoning Department for $10. If you are wanting to add a new driveway to your property, you must submit your plans for approval.
- Excavation permit - Issued to companies that are replacing sewer lines or burying cable line/fiber optics and are in the streets, easements, or personal properties. Must fill out application from Planning and Zoning Department. Cost of permit is $10.

Electrician's License
The City of Seymour holds electrician’s license for 300 individuals in the city limits and a two-mile fringe.
If you are an electrician and want to work on a job site in Seymour, IN, you must hold a current license registered at City of Seymour- Department of Planning and Zoning.
All Electrical License Renewals are due by January 31st of each year and good for one year. Electrical License Renewals are $15.00. A new license is $25.00. Checks are made payable to the City of Seymour.

Where can I pay my parking ticket?
City parking tickets (violating the two-hour ordinance in the downtown or parking in a handicap parking spot without a permit) may be paid at the Seymour Law Enforcement Building, 205 N. Ewing St., during regular business hours only. Tickets written on a City Ordinance can also be paid at that location.
Where can I appeal my parking ticket?
Your parking ticket for downtown may be appealed to the Seymour Police Department if you think it has been issued without due cause.
Parks & Recreation
How can I rent a shelter house or picnic area for my reunion?
Call the Parks & Recreation Department to schedule reserving a place for a family reunion or picnic at one of the parks. They will explain the way it works to you, and help you select the best place for what you need. This department also schedules reserving ball fields or soccer fields for practice or games. Also, they arrange for the use of One Chamber Square and for the use of the Community Center downtown. See the Department of Park and Recreation for more information.
